The most beautiful OPERA HOUSES
This collection of images documents 42 Opera Houses architecture through the centuries. The first opera in history is considered to be Euridice by Jacopo Peri, performed in 1600 in a theatre of Florence.
Since then, hundreds of theatres have been built throughout the world.
Italy saw the construction of the first theatre designed for opera performances. Architects like Andrea Palladio and Aleotti drew their inspiration from the forms of antiquity, including both the amphitheater and Olympic stadium.
The basic form of the first Italian theatres has been kept substantially unchanged over the centuries both to accommodate the public in the most efficient way and for fundamental acoustic needs in a place where sound is the sovereign.
An idiomatic aspect of the opera house must be noted: the predominant color of the armchairs is bright red whereas furnishings is gold.
The photos of this collection are almost all by Guillaume de Laubier.
